A little about me and what to expect in class...
Philosophy of Art Education
An art classroom is a unique environment. Through an array of possibilities art provides intellectual stimulation, emotional outlets, cultural and social awareness and a sense of accomplishment. As a teacher I will strive to introduce all of these possibilities to students while maintaining a classroom that fosters individual growth, artistic expression, positive reinforcement and personal enjoyment. I feel it is important to present a variety of experiences that allow each student an opportunity to excel.
Students in each grade level will have the opportunity to explore a variety of media and techniques. Each year students will be introduced to new concepts while also building on previous knowledge.

About Me
I graduated from Northern Illinois University in 2001, with my degree in Art Education. Upon graduating, I accepted a position at Rockford Art Museum where I worked for five and a half years. My position at the Museum provided me with the opportunity to study art movements and individual artists that I may not have discovered otherwise. It was a terrific experience! In 2007 I returned to school to finish my teaching certificate. I taught at Harlem Middle School for a year and a half before coming to Freedom in 2009. In 2013 I finished my Master's Degree as a Reading Specialist. I learned a lot throughout my studies. Believe it or not, reading can be very helpful to art! I am excited to incorporate the new ideas I learned into my classroom.
Outside of the school day I enjoy spending time with family and friends, relaxing and rejuvenating. I am an avid artist and art appreciator. I visit museums and attend art events when I can. I also love drawing and painting. When time allows, I enjoy exercise, traveling, home improvement, scrap-booking, cooking and playing with my baby boy and puppy!
